Obi Cubana Officially Enters Politics, Calls For Youth-Led, Issue-Driven Engagement

Renowned entrepreneur and social influencer Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has officially announced his entry into Nigerian politics, calling for a new era of clean, disciplined and issue-driven political engagement, spearheaded by young Nigerians.

Cubana made the declaration on Thursday in Abuja during the official presentation of the City Boy Movement (CBM) Guideline and Flag, conducted by the movement’s Director-General, Mr Oluwatosin Shoga.

Addressing supporters and stakeholders at the event, Cubana described his political involvement as a distinct “brand of politics” anchored on positivity, responsibility and constructive dialogue. He stressed that young people remain the backbone of every nation and must play a central role in shaping Nigeria’s political future.

According to him, leadership succession is inevitable, and the responsibility will ultimately rest with the youth.

“At some point, power will be handed over, and there is no other group to hand it over to than the youth,” Cubana said, urging young Nigerians to begin preparing themselves for higher national responsibilities.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu for showing interest in youth development, noting that current reforms, though difficult, point to a long-term vision for national growth.

Reacting to public responses following his political comments, Cubana described the reaction on his social media platforms as unprecedented. He disclosed that he personally manages his online pages and intentionally maintains a high standard of conduct.

“I keep my page clean because I can’t go down to where negativity is coming from. Anywhere they want to go low, we go higher,” he said.

The businessman cautioned supporters against engaging in abusive or hostile exchanges on his behalf, insisting that political disagreements should be addressed through education and enlightenment rather than insults.

“You can’t use abuse to teach people what is right. When they abuse you, you teach them. Keep enlightening them and the results will speak for themselves,” he added.

Describing the current moment as a turning point, Cubana said a “wind of change” was blowing across Nigeria’s political landscape, urging youths to remain focused, resilient and committed to constructive engagement.

Meanwhile, a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, described Cubana as a committed patriot whose dedication to national development goes beyond partisan politics.

He praised Cubana’s resolve to remain focused despite criticism and social media backlash, describing it as evidence of courage and a genuine desire to serve Nigeria.

“This is not about partisan politics. It is about dedication to service and getting things right for Nigeria. Meaningful reforms often come with pain,” Alao-Akala said.

Formally welcoming Cubana into the movement, CBM Director-General Oluwatosin Shoga said the large turnout at the event reflected growing momentum and confidence in Cubana’s leadership.

Shoga explained that the City Boy Movement is focused on reshaping political consciousness among young Nigerians and grooming young professionals and business leaders for elective and appointive offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“If you are not involved, you can’t change the story,” he said.
