The Ondo State government has confirmed the authenticity of a leaked security alert issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding a possible coordinated attack by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) on some communities in the state.
In a statement, the government urged residents to remain calm, assuring that proactive measures were already being taken to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
Speaking on the matter, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Idowu Ajanaku, described the leaked memo as part of the routine intelligence exchange between security agencies and government bodies.
Ajanaku emphasized that such reports are standard components of ongoing security operations, aimed at assessing threats and forestalling potential attacks. He noted that all relevant security agencies were already collaborating closely to address the situation.
“We urge all residents to stay calm but vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency,” he said. “The government is fully committed to maintaining peace and security in every part of Ondo State.”
The leaked DSS memo, reportedly addressed to the Brigade Commander of the 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, Akure, had identified potential targets in Oyin-Akoko, Eriti-Akoko (both in Akoko North-West Local Government Area), and Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area.
The onfidential document indicated that ISWAP operatives had begun surveillance on soft targets in the affected areas, calling for immediate reinforcement of security measures to prevent any possible attack.
