Oyo Assembly Calls for Upward Review of Duty Tour Allowance For Civil, Public Servants

The Journal Nigeria May 27, 2025

Olusegun Adeyemo

The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed a motion urging Governor Seyi Makinde to upwardly review the Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) payable to civil and public servants in the state.

The motion, sponsored by Hon. S.A. Onaolapo and Hon. M.O. Abiola was read at Tuesday’s plenary.

It highlighted the need for a revised DTA structure to reflect the current economic realities.

According to the motion, the current DTA structure in Oyo State was last reviewed in 2008 and has become grossly inadequate due to inflationary pressures.

The House is concerned that failure to address this disparity may discourage commitment, productivity, and foster corruption, demotivation, and dissatisfaction among the Oyo State workforce

The House noted that the National Council on Establishment introduced a new DTA structure at the federal level in 2024, which has since been implemented.

The motion resolves to appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde to approve an upward review of the DTA payable to all categories of civil and public servants in Oyo State.

Additionally, the House urged the Oyo State House of Assembly Service Commission to adopt the National Assembly DTA table for political, legislative staff, and other officials.

Furthermore, the motion callef on the House Committee on Establishments and Training to engage relevant agencies to develop a harmonized and sustainable DTA framework.
