In a commanding win in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Folajimi Sunday Oyekunle, popularly known as “DoN,” defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Adewale Haastrup Olatunji (widely referred to as “Murphy”), by a remarkable margin of over 10,000 votes.
According to results shared by official sources, the PDP polled a total of 18,530 votes, while the APC received 8,266 votes.

Hon. Oyekunle’s candidacy was backed by a consensus within the PDP, with prominent party stakeholders rallying behind him. On the APC side, Olatunji secured his ticket, though the party faced internal divisions and criticism over organization and candidate selection.
This bye-election, prompted by the passing of the former APC representative Hon. Olaide Adewale Akinremi in July 2024, underscores the PDP’s overwhelming advantage in Ibadan North, with their candidate winning comfortably across all wards.
