A brewing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a dramatic turn as Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary, has written to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, alleging that PDP governors are instigating chaos. Anyanwu’s letter comes on the heels of a decision by PDP governors in Asaba, Delta State, directing the National Working Committee (NWC) to implement a Court of Appeal judgment recognizing Sunday Ude-Okoye as the National Secretary.
Anyanwu insists that the governors’ decision is in direct conflict with his appeal pending at the Supreme Court and a stay of execution granted by the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal on January 13. He argues that the Court of Appeal directed all parties to maintain the status quo until the matter is finally determined.
The National Secretary also alleges that Ude-Okoye, with the backing of his sponsors, invaded the PDP national secretariat with hired thugs, disrupting a Board of Trustees meeting. Anyanwu claims that these sponsors are facing criminal investigations for allegedly forging PDP guidelines to secure favorable judgments.
Anyanwu has called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene, cautioning that any attempt to implement the governors’ decision would be an invitation to chaos and an affront to the judiciary. He maintains that he remains the validly elected National Secretary until the court rules otherwise.
