Police Service Commission to Dismiss 37 SARS Operatives

The Police Service Commission is set to dismiss 37 operatives of the disbanded SARS. The Commission is also set to prosecute 24 of the operatives for professional misconduct.

According to reports, the action was a result of the investigations of human rights violation and abuse of office among other things carried out by the Presidential Panel on Reform of SARS which was set up by the Federal Government in 2018.

The Police Service Commission had on Friday received reports of the Presidential Panel from the NHRC executive secretary, Tony Ojukwu who was quoted to have said at a public hearing that the panel called for and received 113 complaints on alleged human rights violations from across the country and 22 memoranda on ways to reform SARS and the Nigerian Police in general.

A statement by the PSC secretary, Ikechukwu Ani, also showed that ‘Ojukwu said at the end of the public hearing, the panel recommended 37 police officers for dismissal and 24 were recommended for prosecution.’
