Rivers’ Head of Service Resigns Amid Administrative Changes

The Journal Nigeria March 25, 2025

Mathew Amaechi

Dr. George Nwaeke has resigned from his position as Rivers State Head of Service. Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral (Retd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The statement expressed appreciation for Dr. Nwaeke’s contributions during his tenure and extended best wishes for his future endeavors. In the interim, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyingi Brown, the Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service, has been appointed as the Acting Head of Service until a substantive appointment is made.

Concurrently, Vice Admiral Ibas has appointed Professor Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). This appointment was announced in a separate statement, highlighting Professor Worika’s extensive experience in the academia, international legal practice and policy advisory roles.

The statement emphasized that his appointment reflects the administrator’s commitment to leveraging the state’s human capital to achieve peace, stability, and security. These leadership changes come amid ongoing administrative adjustments in Rivers State, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibas, has reiterated his dedication to fostering neutrality, peace, and stability within the state during this transitional period.
