Salah Confirms Liverpool Exit After 9 Years

Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2024/25 season, drawing the curtain on a nine-year association with one of English football’s most storied clubs.

The Egyptian forward, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history, made the announcement himself in a video message shared on X, addressing supporters directly before the club’s official statement was released.

“Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell. I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season,” Salah said.

Liverpool confirmed the development, revealing that the timing of the announcement was deliberate and driven by the player’s own request. “Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them,” the club said in a statement cited by Sky Sports.

In an emotional reflection on his time at Anfield, Salah added: “I could never have imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life.”

The 32-year-old joined Liverpool from AS Roma in June 2017 for a reported fee of around £36.9 million. What followed was a transformation that redefined expectations for a wide forward in the Premier League. In his debut season alone, Salah scored 32 league goals, breaking the all-time Premier League record for goals in a 38-game season, a record that still stands.

Across his time at the club, Salah has collected an extraordinary haul of honours under former manager Jürgen Klopp, including the UEFA Champions League in 2019, the Premier League title in 2020, the FA Cup and League Cup double in 2022, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He ends his Anfield career among the club’s all-time top scorers.

His departure leaves a considerable void for Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, currently challenging for silverware this season. No announcement has been made regarding Salah’s next destination, though clubs across Europe and the Middle East have been repeatedly linked with the forward in recent months.

The announcement follows a pattern increasingly seen in modern football, where players and clubs opt for early public disclosure rather than allowing speculation to dominate the closing months of a season.

Salah’s farewell message signals not an ending, but the beginning of a final chapter at a ground where he became a legend.
