Security agencies have been deployed to Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State ahead of Saturday’s by-election, aimed at filling the vacant seat in the State House of Assembly. The vacancy followed the death of Hon. Abdulmalik Jauro, who represented the constituency until his passing in May 2024.
The by-election has attracted considerable political attention, with candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) all in the race. Intense campaigns by supporters of these parties have heightened expectations and underscored the need for strong security measures to forestall any disruptions.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun personally supervised the security deployment in Ganye. Addressing officers, he urged them to demonstrate vigilance, impartiality, and professionalism in safeguarding the process. “This election is a civic duty, and the Nigeria Police Force, alongside other security agencies, must guarantee a safe environment where citizens can exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation,” he said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also pledged to deliver a free, fair, and credible election, confirming that electoral personnel and materials have already been distributed across polling units in the constituency.
Residents of Ganye have been encouraged to turn out in large numbers to vote for their preferred candidates while complying with electoral rules. With security forces on high alert and political stakeholders under close watch, authorities remain optimistic that the poll will proceed smoothly, further strengthening democratic governance in Adamawa State.
