Security Officer Injured as Police Foil Kidnap Attempt in Katsina

The Journal Nigeria May 5, 2025

Mohamed Garba

Police in Katsina State have thwarted an attempted kidnapping in Faskari Local Government Area, recovering a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle and a red Boxer motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects.

The incident occurred on May 2, 2025, when armed assailants targeted 23-year-old Abu Iro, a resident of Faskari, inflicting a deep machete wound to his head in an attempt to abduct him.

According to a statement by the Katsina State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, a swift response from a joint team comprising police officers and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC), led by the Divisional Police Officer of Faskari, prevented the abduction and ensured the victim’s rescue.

The suspects fled the scene, abandoning the weapon and motorcycle. During the operation, a member of the KSCWC sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Police authorities say investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators. Further updates are expected as the probe progresses.
