President Donald Trump has officially revoked former Vice President Kamala Harris’s Secret Service protection, effective September 1, 2025. This decision terminates an extension granted by former President Joe Biden, which had extended Harris’s security detail beyond the standard six-month period typically afforded to former vice presidents. The extension, reportedly requested by Harris, was set to last until July 2026.
The revocation comes as Harris prepares to embark on a 15-stop book tour for her memoir, 107 Days, set to launch on September 23. The tour includes international stops in London and Toronto, raising concerns about her safety without federal protection.
In response to the decision, a senior advisor to Harris expressed gratitude to the Secret Service for their past service, noting their professionalism and dedication.
However, the move has drawn criticism from various political figures. California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have accused President Trump of politically motivated actions that jeopardize Harris’s safety.
This action is part of a broader pattern where President Trump has revoked security protections for several former officials and critics, including former National Security Advisor John Bolton and members of the Biden family.
As Harris moves forward with her book tour, her team is reportedly exploring alternative security arrangements to ensure her safety during public appearances.
