Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, made his first appearance in court as a practicing lawyer on Friday, just weeks after being called to the Nigerian Bar.
Melaye, who was among over 5,000 new lawyers admitted to the Bar earlier this month after completing his law degree at Baze University, appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja wearing the full wig and gown for the first time.
“Senator Dino Melaye @ the Federal High Court Abuja today. Appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite of Court 8,” the politician-turned-lawyer posted on his verified Facebook page shortly after the proceedings.
Sources confirmed that the case before Justice Nwite was adjourned to a later date, and details were not disclosed. Inside the courtroom, Melaye exchanged pleasantries with colleagues before the brief session began.
Friday’s appearance marks a new chapter for Melaye, whose career has spanned activism, two terms in the National Assembly, and a stint in reality television. He currently serves as a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Court officials described the outing as largely procedural but significant for Melaye as his debut in legal practice.
