Suspected Burglar Caught Hiding in Bank Ceiling After Failed Overnight Heist

The Journal Nigeria July 2, 2025

A dramatic incident unfolded at an FCMB branch as a young man was caught hiding in the ceiling following an alleged failed attempt to rob the bank overnight.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect reportedly entered the banking hall during normal business hours, discreetly locked himself in one of the restrooms, and later made his way into the ceiling after closing time. His intention, sources say, was to remain undetected until all staff had vacated the premises, after which he would initiate a burglary.

However, the plan quickly unraveled the next morning when bank employees arrived to find the main entrance locked from the inside—an immediate red flag. Upon forcing the door open, they reportedly heard suspicious noises coming from above.

Security operatives were called in and eventually located the suspect in the ceiling cavity. He was forcibly pulled down, subdued, and tied up by security personnel and bystanders. In a widely shared video, the visibly shaken young man can be seen being dragged from the ceiling and beaten by the crowd.

Witnesses claim the intruder had begun tampering with the bank’s internal systems before his discovery, although the extent of any damage or data compromise remains unclear.

As of press time, FCMB has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
