President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Muhammad Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.
The appointment, announced on Friday, in a statement sighted by The Journal Nigeria, is part of a broader effort to strengthen governance across key federal agencies. Muhammad Babangida, 53, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland. He also attended the Executive Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.
Other appointments announced by the President include Lydia Kalat Musa from Kaduna State as Chairman of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, Jamilu Wada Aliyu from Kano State as Chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council, and Hon. Yahuza Ado Inuwa, also from Kano, as Chairman of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria. In addition, Sanusi Musa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has been appointed Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution, while Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto State will serve as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa.
Sanusi Garba Rikiji from Zamfara State has been named Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations, while Mrs. Tomi Somefun from Oyo State has been appointed Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission. Dr. Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria from Kaduna State will serve as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission.
The appointments take immediate effect, according to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
