President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate disbursement of full allowances and match bonuses for Nigeria’s Super Falcons as they prepare to face Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
This announcement was made on Thursday by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, who confirmed that all entitlements—including those covering the final match scheduled for July 26—have already been processed for players, coaches, and officials.
Dikko described the move as a “policy in motion,” signaling a renewed commitment to Nigerian sports under Tinubu’s administration. He assured that timely payment of entitlements would now become standard practice, eliminating the perennial issues of delays and disputes in Nigerian sports.
“This is the kind of sports administration we are building—one rooted in dignity, trust, and shared prosperity,” Dikko said. “Future generations will appreciate President Tinubu’s reforms in the sports sector.”
He also revealed that similar improvements would be extended to other national teams, including the women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who are gearing up for the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.
The decision has been widely praised by sports stakeholders and fans, as it addresses long-standing grievances of Nigerian athletes over unpaid allowances and poor welfare conditions during international competitions.
With the Super Falcons on the brink of another historic title, the presidential approval is seen as both a morale boost and a step toward restoring professionalism and respect in Nigerian sports.
