President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi. Initially slated to conclude his term on August 31, 2025, Adeniyi will now continue in office until August 2026.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the extension aims to allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and successfully implement several strategic initiatives under the Tinubu administration.
Key projects mentioned include the comprehensive modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service, the full rollout of the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s continued compliance with its obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” the statement read. “He is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Customs Service in fulfilling its mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”
Adeniyi was appointed Comptroller-General in an acting capacity in June 2023 following the departure of Hameed Ali, and he was confirmed in October 2023.
