Tinubu Marks Second Year in Office, Says Reforms Building Sustainable Future

The Journal Nigeria May 29, 2025

Ola Akinwunmi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a nationwide address marking his second year in office, said his administration’s reforms are laying the groundwork for a more sustainable and inclusive future for all Nigerians.

Speaking on Wednesday, exactly two years since he assumed office, Tinubu highlighted the goals and progress of his Renewed Hope Agenda — a central plank of his presidency. He emphasised that his policies are aimed at reducing the cost of living, fostering economic justice, and creating a business-friendly climate that benefits both investors and everyday citizens.

“We are laying the foundation for a more sustainable future,” Tinubu said. “Together, we are creating a system where prosperity is shared, and no one is left behind.”

The President framed the economic and social reforms of the past two years as long-term investments in national stability and prosperity. While acknowledging the challenges Nigerians continue to face — especially in terms of inflation and economic pressure — he expressed confidence that the current trajectory will deliver lasting benefits.

Tinubu also took a moment to express gratitude to the Nigerian people for their patience and support during what he described as a period of necessary, but difficult, transformation.
“Your resilience, your hope, and your belief in this country are what keep us moving forward,” he said.

As Tinubu’s administration enters its third year, public focus is expected to remain on the impact of his economic policies, especially as Nigerians await tangible improvements in daily life.

The President’s address comes amid continued debates over the pace and impact of his reforms, with critics urging more immediate relief for struggling households, while supporters praise what they call a disciplined path toward long-term growth.
