President Bola Tinubu on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic standing, as global security tensions continue to draw international attention to the country.
Speaking at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, moments before the Federal Executive Council entered a closed-door session, Tinubu said his government is engaging world powers to advance peace, stability, and economic progress.
“We are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism,” the President declared. “The task ahead is to move forward with clarity of purpose under the Renewed Hope agenda to build a prosperous Nigeria.”
The meeting was FEC’s first since July.
Tinubu’s renewed assurance comes days after U.S. President Donald Trump designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” a classification the Federal Government has condemned as a misrepresentation of the nation’s security landscape.
Addressing the development publicly for the first time, Tinubu said Nigeria is working with international partners to strengthen national security, insisting that global security tensions should not overshadow the country’s progress.
“Despite political headwinds and fears, we will continue to engage with our partners,” he said.

He cited the oversubscription of Nigeria’s $2.3bn Eurobond as proof that investor confidence in the Nigerian economy is rebounding despite international controversies.
Tinubu also commended his cabinet for their commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, urging them to remain united and focused as reforms deepen across sectors.
“The task ahead is immense, but we are resolved to move forward with unity and purpose,” he added, assuring Nigerians that the country remains unshaken in its pursuit of peace and prosperity Amid global security tension.
