Eleven railway workers were killed and two others injured on Thursday after a train hit them in southwest China’s Yunnan province, local railway authorities have confirmed.
The train, which was being used for seismic equipment testing, collided with the workers in the early hours of the day at Luoyang Town Station in Kunming, according to a statement by the Kunming Railway Bureau.
Officials said the train was moving normally through a curved section of the station when it struck construction workers who had entered the track area.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Authorities added that rail transportation had returned to normal by midday, while the injured were receiving medical treatment.
Industrial accidents remain common in China, often linked to weak enforcement of safety regulations and poor workplace standards.
