Tributes have continued to flow following the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, who passed away at the age of 70.
The sad news was confirmed on Friday by movie executive and producer, Seun Oloketuyi, in an Instagram post, stating that the actor died earlier in the day. “Popular actor Segun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, died Friday morning. Details soon,” Oloketuyi wrote.
Fans, colleagues, and associates have described the late actor as a talented, warm, and humble man whose life and work left lasting memories.
A fan, Ugo-oma Na Ugo-oma, recalled, “Chief Kanran was a good customer. He always patronised me anytime he came around Okalawon Estate in Kilo, Surulere. He was full of beautiful impacts and memories. He was not tribalistic — he loved everyone.”
Another admirer, identified as Mr. Ade Lamba, said, “He was a great actor and a very jovial man. I will never forget what he told me during my stay in Ile-Ife.”
Mrs. Linda Daniel noted that his passing was a huge loss to Nollywood and his fans worldwide. “May his soul rest in peace. Chief Kanran will be deeply missed,” she said.
Others, including Mr. Sola Odewusi and Mr. Adewale Abass, paid homage by recalling his role in the 1994 production Ilu-le, saying, “The Ilu-le coroner of 1994 bows out! Good night!”
Odunayo Jayeoba reflected on the brevity of life, adding, “His life was full of struggles and trouble. May Allah grant his family the solace and fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
Chief Kanran, widely respected for his versatility and decades-long contribution to the Nigerian film industry, leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of actors and filmmakers.
