Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reignited his feud with the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, labelling him “a nasty person” during a press conference in Scotland on Sunday.
Despite the verbal attack, Trump stated he would “certainly” visit London during his ongoing four-day informal summer visit to the UK.
Speaking alongside British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Trump delivered the criticism unprovoked. Starmer quickly attempted to defuse the moment, interjecting: “He’s a friend of mine, actually,” referring to Khan. However, Trump doubled down, saying, “I think he’s done a terrible job.”
The renewed tensions echo the longstanding animosity between Trump and Khan, dating back to Trump’s presidency. Sunday’s remarks have already stirred political reaction and raised questions about the tone of Trump’s visit.
The Mayor of London’s office has been approached for comment.
Trump’s visit, which includes private meetings and events in Scotland and England, is being closely followed due to its political undertones and timing ahead of both U.S. and UK political milestones.
