The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, Sunday Dare, has addressed growing public interest in the undisclosed details surrounding the rescue of 38 abducted worshippers from the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.
In a post on his X account on Tuesday, Dare explained that operations to free kidnapping victims are typically complex, involving coordination among multiple security agencies, local intelligence networks, and extensive planning.
“The process of securing or freeing victims of kidnappings is often a complicated one involving several steps and multiple security personnel, even local intelligence,” he wrote.
“The full details of such operations are never disclosed in full. It’s a security matter. The ultimate goal is to free the captives and, of course, apprehend the terrorists.”
Dare commended security agencies for recent operations in Niger and Kwara states, assuring Nigerians that the perpetrators would soon be brought to justice.
His comments follow the announcement by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on November 23 that the 38 abductees had been freed. The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, said the success resulted largely from President Bola Tinubu’s direct involvement in coordinating security efforts.
According to the statement, President Tinubu personally supervised the rescue operations and even postponed a scheduled trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa to focus on developments in Kwara and Kebbi states.
Dare’s remarks highlight the balance security authorities must maintain between operational secrecy and public accountability, while assuring citizens that professional efforts are underway to safeguard communities and prosecute offenders.
