Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has launched the distribution of agricultural supplies to 1,000 farming families, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Mallam Dunari and their host communities.
The flag-off ceremony, held on Monday at the Damaturu Government House, saw the participation of development partners from the European Union and the Swiss government. The initiative seeks to enhance food production and support vulnerable families in rebuilding their livelihoods.
Each rainy-season farmer will receive insecticides, sprayers, hoes, and cutlasses, while dry-season farmers will be provided with water pumps, improved seeds (including varieties for onions, tomatoes, cabbage, and rice), fertilisers, and irrigation equipment.

Governor Buni disclosed that his administration has committed over N4 billion to agricultural development across all 178 wards in the state. This includes the procurement of tractors, fertilisers, and other critical farming inputs to boost productivity and ensure food security.
In collaboration with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the state government has also assisted 2,000 households in Geidam, Tarmuwa, and Damaturu with farming tools and livestock. Additionally, beneficiaries have received training in animal husbandry and will be supported with small ruminants to sustain their livelihoods.

Muktar Dunari, speaking on behalf of the recipients, expressed gratitude to the state government for the support. He urged beneficiaries to utilise the inputs productively and refrain from selling them, while calling for continued public support for Governor Buni’s development programmes.
The distribution forms part of Yobe State’s broader efforts to restore stability and economic resilience among communities affected by displacement.
