NSCDC Clears Air on Promotion and Salary Arrears Amid Welfare Claims
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has clarified reports alleging non-payment of promotion and salary arrears, insisting that welfare funds have not been withheld under the current leadership of the service.
The clarification followed complaints by some personnel over unpaid promotion arrears between 2022 and 2024, with claims that repeated assurances of payment had not translated into disbursement.
In a statement issued on Thursday, NSCDC spokesman, Afolabi Babawale, said the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, does not control the payment of salaries or promotion arrears. He explained that such payments are handled by the Presidential Committee on Arrears, chaired by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation and the Accountant General of the Federation.
Babawale noted that the current leadership inherited five years of unpaid salary arrears on assumption of office in 2021, but facilitated the clearance of arrears from 2015 to 2019, benefiting over 37,000 personnel.
He dismissed reports that no arrears had been paid since 2022 as false and misleading, stressing that payment records show progress in settling outstanding obligations.
The spokesman added that arrears for 2023 and 2024 are yet to be approved by relevant authorities, noting that disbursement requires presidential approval and budgetary release.
He further explained that the 2025 promotion examination results were released in December 2025, and the process of capturing the outcome in the budget is ongoing.
Babawale urged NSCDC personnel to remain calm, assuring them of engagement with government.
