Shakira, Burna Boy Release Official FIFA 2026 Anthem “Dai Dai”

Colombian pop icon Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy have jointly released “Dai Dai,” the official anthem for the FIFA World Cup 2026, signalling the formal countdown to the most anticipated football tournament on the planet.

Shakira announced the release directly to fans on social media Friday, writing: “Dai Dai is here. The @FIFAWorldCup 2026 starts now!”

FIFA confirmed the release in a statement on its official X handle, describing the track as a song that “captures the energy, passion and global spirit that will define the greatest show on earth.” The song, released via Sony Music Latin, is now available across all major streaming platforms.

Beyond its musical ambitions, the anthem carries a humanitarian mission. FIFA announced that royalties from “Dai Dai” will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative targeting $100 million in fundraising by the close of the tournament to deliver quality education and football opportunities to children worldwide. Shakira will donate her personal royalties to the fund, while Sony Music has pledged to match the first $250,000 raised with an additional contribution.

The track weaves together themes of resilience, ambition, and global unity, with its lyrics paying tribute to football royalty across generations. Among those mentioned are Pelé, Diego Maradona, Paolo Maldini, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappé, Mohamed Salah, David Beckham, Andrés Iniesta, Kaká, and Romário. Football nations including Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, the United States, England, Germany, France, Spain, Mexico, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, Uruguay, and the Netherlands also receive nods in the song.

For Shakira, the release marks a third World Cup moment. The singer previously delivered “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” for the 2010 South Africa tournament and “La La La” for the 2014 Brazil edition, both of which became global anthems in their own right.

For Nigeria, the collaboration continues a growing footprint on the World Cup music stage. Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, becomes only the second Nigerian artist to feature on an official World Cup song, following Davido’s appearance on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together)” alongside Trinidad Cardona and Qatari singer AISHA for the 2022 Qatar tournament.

The festivities extend beyond the anthem. FIFA confirmed that fellow Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles on June 12, while Shakira is set to co headline the final halftime show on July 19, an event FIFA described as the first halftime performance in the tournament’s history.

“Dai Dai” joins a growing official FIFA World Cup 2026 album that already includes “Lighter,” “Por Ella,” “Echo,” and “Illuminate,” with additional singles expected in the weeks ahead as the tournament draws closer.
