Uzodimma Orders APC Campaign Panels to Submit Osun Poll Plans
Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress National Campaign Council for the Osun State governorship election, has directed all subcommittees under the council to submit their resolutions and proposals by Thursday as the party intensifies preparations for the 15 August poll.
Uzodimma issued the directive on Monday while addressing members of the council at a meeting held at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. He described the gathering as strictly business and warned members against treating the campaign as a social outing.
“The plan is to go and support our brothers and sisters in Osun State to win the forthcoming election. This meeting is not for merrymaking. It’s not for any jamboree. It is for people to come and offer service,” he said.
He explained that every member belonged to one subcommittee or another and tasked them to reconvene individually before Thursday to determine how best to contribute. The meeting, he said, was convened “to officially mandate all the subcommittees to meet as soon as possible, between now and Thursday, and bring up ideas and services they think they can render to ensure that our task is made easier.”
Uzodimma directed that the subcommittees channel their resolutions through the council’s national secretary. He stressed that the sole focus remained victory at the polls.
“I therefore urge all the chairmen of all the subcommittees to submit to the national secretary of this committee all their resolutions and proposals that will enable them to work, and where they think the Central Working Committee will help them to be able to actualize their mission. We have only one mission, to win the election. Everything can come after the elections,” he said.
On funding, he disclosed that the finance subcommittee had been mandated to receive contributions from members and non members willing to support the Osun campaign.
The APC constituted a large National Campaign Council, reported in the range of 276 to 291 members, with 12 specialised subcommittees covering election planning and management, finance and resource mobilisation, contact and grassroots engagement, security, media and publicity, logistics, youth mobilisation, women mobilisation, persons with disabilities mobilisation and related functions. Uzodimma chairs the council, with Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas as co chairmen. Ibrahim Kabir Masari serves as deputy chairman and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin as secretary.
The council was inaugurated on 28 July 2026 in Abuja. Party leaders have described the Osun contest as the last major governorship election before the 2027 general elections and a test of the APC’s organisational strength. The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the election for Saturday 15 August 2026. It is an off cycle poll arising from the tenure of the current administration, which began after the 2022 election.
Fourteen political parties have been cleared to field candidates. The APC candidate is Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke is contesting on the Accord Party platform after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party. Other candidates include Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress. Candidates from the participating parties have signed a peace accord organised by the National Peace Committee in partnership with INEC.
The APC has emphasised grassroots mobilisation and operational planning. Party officials have stated that the campaign will highlight the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu while focusing on house to house engagement across the state’s 30 local government areas and 332 wards. The finance subcommittee’s mandate to collect contributions forms part of efforts to resource the final stretch of activities before voting day.
With just over a week remaining before the election, the submission deadline set by Uzodimma is intended to translate the council’s structures into concrete field actions. The outcome of the 15 August poll will determine the next governor of Osun State and is widely viewed within the APC as an early indicator of organisational readiness ahead of the broader 2027 contests.
