Davido Celebrates Uncle Adeleke’s Re-Election As Osun Governor

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of the governorship election results.

The singer took to his X account on Sunday morning to share his reaction to the outcome of the poll, posting a brief message that read, “WE DID IT UNC !!!”. In a video accompanying the post, Davido was seen lying on the floor in celebration while one of his aides, Israel, hailed him, saying, “Congratulations boss”. According to reports, the Grammy-nominated singer had been watching live coverage of the election results and erupted in excitement as the Returning Officer formally declared his uncle the winner.

The declaration was made at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday by the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, following the conclusion of collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas.

According to the final figures announced by INEC, Governor Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who secured 444,815 votes. The winning margin stood at 66,252 votes. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.

Announcing the final figures, Professor Ogunwole said accredited voters totalled 1,010,684, while the total valid votes stood at 985,079. He stated that 20,721 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 1,005,800. After agents of the political parties signed the results, the Returning Officer declared that Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law.

“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected,” Ogunwole declared.

A breakdown of the results showed that Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11. The governor secured victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and Ila, according to the results announced by the Returning Officer. Oyebamiji won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Olaoluwa and Ife South.

Davido had been deeply involved in his uncle’s campaign, serving as Chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council. He suspended aspects of his music career to focus on mobilising support for Adeleke ahead of the election and participated in rallies and grassroots mobilisation activities while using his social media platforms to encourage supporters to vote and remain vigilant during the electoral process.

In the final days before the election, Davido intensified his campaign activities in Osun, urging voters to reject violence and intimidation and to defend their votes. On election day, he remained active online, commenting on emerging results and calling on supporters to monitor the collation process. He also repeatedly urged the electoral commission and relevant authorities to ensure transparency in the announcement of results.

Following INEC’s declaration, jubilation erupted across Osun, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown, as supporters gathered to celebrate his return for a second term. The victory secures another four-year term for the governor, who won the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the Accord Party in December 2025.
