Kebbi School Attack: PDP Says Tinubu Govt Has Failed To Protect Nigerians
The Peoples Democratic Party has blamed the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the worsening security situation in the country following a deadly attack on Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Bandits reportedly invaded the school community, killed the Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducted about 25 students during the attack. The incident has triggered outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, condemned the attack and accused the ruling All Progressives Congress-led government of failing in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property.
The party described the incident as “disturbing and unacceptable,” stating that the continued attacks on schools and communities show that many Nigerians no longer feel safe under the current administration.
According to the PDP, the Kebbi school attack further reflects what it described as the growing insecurity Nigerians have been forced to live with since the coming of the Tinubu administration. The party stated that the government has continued to focus more on politics instead of confronting the country’s security challenges with seriousness and urgency.
The statement read in part that when “a government fails in its primary duty of safeguarding lives and property, it must accept responsibility and deal decisively with the issues, rather than act aloof or attempt to deflect from the core issues, as this administration has repeatedly done.”
The opposition party expressed sympathy to the families affected by the attack, especially the relatives of the slain Vice Principal, the abducted students, staff members and the management of the school. It also sympathised with the government and people of Kebbi State over the tragic development.
The PDP urged President Tinubu and security agencies to immediately intensify efforts towards rescuing the abducted students and restoring confidence in public safety across the country. The party warned that repeated attacks on schools, communities and travellers across different parts of Nigeria have continued to create fear among citizens, particularly in northern states where cases of abductions and killings have remained persistent.
It further called on the Federal Government to stop what it termed unnecessary politicisation of governance and channel more attention towards security operations, intelligence gathering and protection of vulnerable communities.
