Actor and reality TV star Tayo Faniran has said talent alone is not enough to succeed in Nollywood, arguing that favouritism plays a significant role in determining career opportunities.
Faniran made the comment during a recent appearance on a TV programme, where he spoke about his career and his experience in the Nigerian film industry.
The actor questioned the perception that some of the most prominent figures in Nollywood are necessarily the most talented.
“In Nollywood, the film producers, actors and directors you guys see and know as the biggest are not the most talented,” he said.
Faniran also expressed frustration over his own career progression, saying he believed he would have achieved more if opportunities in the industry were based strictly on merit.
“If Nollywood were strictly about talent, I should be far beyond where I am. There is a lot of rigging in the industry,” he added.
Faniran, who has also appeared on reality television, has previously spoken about his career and experiences in the entertainment industry.
