US Boosts Nigeria’s Security Efforts with Fresh Military Supply Delivery

The United States has reinforced its security partnership with Nigeria by delivering a new batch of critical military supplies, signaling continued cooperation between both nations in tackling security challenges.

The delivery was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), the body responsible for coordinating U.S. military operations across Africa. According to AFRICOM, the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian security partners in Abuja.

Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, AFRICOM described the move as a show of solidarity and shared responsibility.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” the command stated.

While AFRICOM did not reveal details about the type or quantity of equipment delivered, the development highlights deepening military collaboration between Washington and Abuja at a time of heightened security concerns.

The delivery comes against the backdrop of broader U.S.–Nigeria security engagements. On Christmas night, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting Islamic State–linked militants accused of collaborating with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local armed bandit networks.

Those strikes followed diplomatic tensions triggered by allegations of violence and persecution against Christians in Nigeria. U.S. President Donald Trump had previously described the situation as a “genocide,” a claim the Nigerian government firmly denied.

Despite past disagreements, the latest military support underscores ongoing cooperation between both countries, as Nigeria continues its fight against terrorism and armed criminal groups.
