Gunmen on Wednesday night abducted at least 10 people from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, the police have confirmed.
The attack occurred on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, at about 8 p.m., according to the spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun.
“On November 26, 2025, at about 8 p.m., a report was received that suspected armed men kidnapped about 10 persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Government Area. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the victims,” Abiodun said.
In a separate incident on the same day in Kakuru community, Erena Ward, the attackers reportedly severed the right hand of a blind man after forcibly taking his mobile phone. The victim is currently receiving treatment at a local clinic.
The latest attacks came barely 24 hours after another gang abducted 24 farmers, including pregnant women, from a rice farm in Palaita, also in Erena Ward.
Residents of Shiroro and surrounding communities are now living in fear, with many abandoning their homes and farmlands due to the worsening security situation.
The renewed violence follows the abduction of over 300 students and 12 teachers last week from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area, one of the largest school kidnappings in recent times.
Niger State remains one of the states worst affected by banditry, with Shiroro, Rafi, Munya and Agwara local government areas recording frequent attacks.
