The Kwara South Consultative Forum has rejected a call by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, to rename the University of Ilorin after Sheikh Alimi, describing the proposal as divisive and insensitive.
In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mr Adebayo Daramola, the group said the university belongs to all ethnic groups in Kwara State and should not be associated with a single lineage.
The forum suggested that proponents of the idea consider establishing a private university in Sheikh Alimi’s name instead. It also criticized the renaming of the Kwara State Government House as Ahmadu Bello House without broad consultation.
The group appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to intervene in the interest of equity, unity and peaceful coexistence.
