Osimhen Begins Recovery Training After Surgery
Recovery efforts for Victor Osimhen have entered a new phase, with Turkish club Galatasaray confirming the striker has resumed light indoor training following a recent injury.
The development marks a significant step in the rehabilitation of the Nigerian international, who has been sidelined since sustaining a fractured right forearm during a UEFA Champions League fixture against Liverpool FC in mid-March. The injury occurred after a collision with defender Ibrahima Konaté and required surgical intervention, which the club confirmed was successfully completed days later.
In its latest medical update, Galatasaray disclosed that Osimhen has progressed beyond the initial recovery phase and has commenced controlled indoor sessions. The club noted that the 27-year-old is undergoing individual rehabilitation as part of a structured programme designed to gradually restore strength and match fitness.
While Osimhen has not yet rejoined full team training, his return to physical activity is viewed as a positive indicator ahead of a demanding stretch of fixtures for the Istanbul-based side. The team recently resumed preparations for a league encounter against Trabzonspor, engaging in drills and small-sided games, although the Nigerian forward remained absent from on-pitch activities.
Head coach Okan Buruk is expected to continue overseeing a cautious recovery process, with club medical staff prioritising long-term fitness over an accelerated return, given the nature of the injury.
Despite the setback, Osimhen is reportedly targeting a return later this month, with April 26 identified as a possible comeback date during the high-profile Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahçe. Should that timeline be met, his recovery period would fall within an estimated five to six weeks post-surgery, a timeframe considered achievable but subject to medical clearance.
Club officials indicated that Osimhen may be cleared to feature with a protective arm splint once he regains sufficient conditioning. However, his rehabilitation is expected to progress through several stages, including light outdoor drills and eventual full-contact training before any competitive return is approved.
The striker is likely to miss multiple domestic league fixtures and at least one cup match as part of the recovery process. His potential availability for the derby could prove significant, as Galatasaray remain engaged in a closely contested title race in the Turkish top flight.
Osimhen has been a key figure for both club and country, with his performances for the Super Eagles and Galatasaray underlining his importance in high-stakes matches. His gradual return to fitness is therefore being closely monitored by club officials and supporters alike, particularly as the season approaches a decisive phase.
