Russian Air Strikes Kill Twelve Across Ukraine

Moscow launched a massive aerial assault on its neighbour overnight, killing at least 12 people in a series of coordinated drone and missile strikes. The southern port city of Odesa bore the heaviest toll, where local authorities confirmed six fatalities following the bombardment. In the capital, Kyiv, rescuers recovered the bodies of four victims, including a 12-year-old child. Further strikes on the central city of Dnipro claimed two more lives, as Russia continues to intensify its four-year campaign of attrition.

The assault on Kyiv caused significant structural damage in the historic Podilsky district, where a residential building collapsed. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that emergency teams pulled a child alive from the debris, though at least 10 other residents sustained injuries. Shrapnel from intercepted missiles sparked a large blaze in the Obolonsky district, destroying several vehicles and damaging apartments. Medics were among those wounded while attempting to treat victims during the ongoing alert.

In Dnipro, the regional administration reported ten injuries in addition to the two deaths recorded. One woman remains in serious condition after being rushed to the hospital with life-threatening wounds. To the north-east, Kharkiv also came under fire from Iranian-designed drones, which wounded two elderly residents. The frequency of these attacks has shifted recently, with Moscow expanding its nightly drone swarms to include high-precision daytime missile strikes.

Military administrators in Kyiv warned civilians to remain in underground shelters until the final missile alerts were lifted. The persistence of the sirens has become a grim constant for the city’s inhabitants as the war enters its fifth year. Ukrainian air defences intercepted several incoming projectiles, yet the sheer volume of the barrage overwhelmed systems in Odesa and Dnipro. Moscow has fired hundreds of drones at Ukrainian urban centres almost nightly since the conflict began.

These latest casualties highlight the shifting nature of the Russian air campaign, which increasingly targets residential hubs far from the front lines. By striking port cities like Odesa and industrial centres like Dnipro simultaneously, the Kremlin seeks to stretch Ukraine’s air defence resources to a breaking point. The death of a child in the capital will likely lead to renewed calls from Kyiv for more sophisticated Western interceptor batteries. For now, the clearing of rubble continues across the country.
