Igboho Awaits Federal Approval For Iru Ekun Security Network

Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has announced that he is awaiting formal approval from the Federal Government to commence operations of his security outfit, the Iru Ekun Security Network, which he says is positioned to assist conventional security agencies in clearing criminal elements from forests across the South West.

In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, the activist confirmed that all required documentation and procedural prerequisites for the registration and approval of the security firm had been duly submitted to the relevant Federal authorities. He commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a firm commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, particularly in the South West geopolitical zone.

Igboho equally affirmed his readiness to comply fully with the Executive Order recently issued by the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde, which regulates the activities of private security organisations operating within the state.

“We have submitted all the required documents for our registered security firm, Iru Ekun Security Network, and are only waiting for the Federal Government approval which will be granted soon,” the statement read.

The activist expressed willingness to partner with statutory security institutions in confronting the wave of violent criminality that has destabilised rural communities across the region.

“We are absolutely ready to collaborate with the police, Department of State Service (DSS), Nigeria Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits, and other hoodlums, who are threatening the peace and safety of our people, most especially in rural communities,” he stated.

He further commended the Federal Government’s posture on national security, asserting that the present administration was demonstrating measurable resolve in confronting insecurity nationwide.

“It is obvious that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is resolutely committed to tackle criminalities not only in the South West but also in all other regions plagued by insecurity,” Igboho said.

On the new state level regulatory framework introduced by the Oyo State Government, the activist gave his unequivocal support, describing such oversight as essential for orderly private security operations within the federation.

“Besides, I want to state that we are also ready to comply with the new executive order issued by Governor Seyi Makinde to regulate the activities of private security concerns. We are ready to support and cooperate with measures aimed at strengthening the security and peace in Oyo and other states in Yorubaland,” he added.

Igboho concluded by stressing the linkage between rural security and national food sufficiency, noting that the persistent threat of armed criminality in farming communities posed a direct risk to agricultural output and household livelihoods.

“Without peace and security, healthy socioeconomic developments cannot thrive, most especially in the rural communities which remain the hub of agricultural production critical to the nation’s food security and means of livelihood for farmers,” the statement concluded.

The proposed Iru Ekun Security Network, once approved, is expected to operate within the existing legal framework guiding private security outfits in Nigeria, complementing the efforts of statutory security agencies in tackling kidnapping, banditry, and forest based criminality that have continued to challenge the South West region.
