Osimhen’s Pregnant Partner Escapes Injury In Istanbul Crash

Stefanie Kim Ladewig, the partner of Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, has walked away unhurt from a three-vehicle collision in Istanbul, Türkiye. The 26-year-old model, who is eight months pregnant, was taken to hospital for precautionary checks after the accident and later discharged in good health. No one was injured in the crash, although all three vehicles were damaged.

The accident happened at about 3.10pm on Tuesday, October 13, in the Mithatpaşa neighbourhood of Kemerburgaz, part of Istanbul’s Eyüpsultan district. According to details of the incident released in Istanbul, Ladewig was driving an SUV and had entered a bend when she ran into the back of a light commercial vehicle travelling ahead of her. The impact made her lose control, and her SUV then struck another SUV coming from the opposite direction towards Kemerburgaz.

Police and traffic officers inspected the scene after the collision. Ladewig then went to a private hospital in Maslak, in the Sarıyer district, where doctors examined her because of the advanced stage of her pregnancy. She was found to be in good condition and allowed to go home once the checks were completed. There was no indication of any dispute between the drivers involved.

Born in Berlin, Germany, Ladewig works as a model and shares fashion and beauty content with followers on social media. She is a mother of one. She has been seen publicly with Osimhen on several occasions, including at the AIC Oscar del Calcio awards in Italy in 2023, when the striker was at the peak of his years with Napoli.

The crash also draws attention to the family life of one of Nigeria’s best known footballers abroad. Osimhen, 27, has become one of the most prominent figures in Turkish football since arriving in Istanbul on loan from Napoli in 2024. He scored 37 goals in 41 matches across all competitions that season, including 26 in 30 league games, finishing as the Süper Lig’s top scorer as Galatasaray won a 25th league title.

His form persuaded Galatasaray to break the Turkish transfer record. On July 31, 2025, the club confirmed a €75 million permanent deal with Napoli, almost four times the previous record of €20 million paid by Fenerbahçe for Youssef En-Nesyri a year earlier. Galatasaray told the Public Disclosure Platform that Osimhen signed a four-year contract worth a guaranteed €15 million net per season, plus a €1 million loyalty bonus and €5 million in image rights. Napoli is also entitled to 10 per cent of any profit from his next transfer.

Tuesday’s crash, though frightening for a heavily pregnant driver, falls into the most common category of road accidents in Türkiye. The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) recorded 1,549,574 road accidents nationwide in 2025, a rise of 7.3 per cent on 2024. Of these, 1,261,253, or roughly 81 per cent, caused only material damage, as in Ladewig’s case, while 288,321 involved deaths or injuries.

The same TÜİK figures show the scale of the risk on Turkish roads. A total of 6,035 people died in road accidents in 2025, down from 6,351 in 2024, a fall of five per cent, while 403,937 people were injured. Deaths per 100,000 motor vehicles dropped from 20.3 to 18.0 over the period, even as the number of vehicles on the road rose by 7.4 per cent to about 33.6 million.

Istanbul, home to more than 15 million people and Galatasaray’s base, recorded the highest number of injuries of any province in 2025, at 47,717. Ankara had the highest number of deaths, at 290. TÜİK also attributed 90.6 per cent of the faults behind fatal and injury accidents in 2025 to driver error, ahead of road, vehicle and pedestrian factors.

Ladewig was not hurt, and the precautionary hospital visit returned a clean bill of health. For Osimhen, who is expected to become a father again within weeks, the outcome will come as a relief.
