In a fresh attempt to fill the vacuum left by the sacked minister of power, Sale Mamman, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the senate to confirm the appointment of Muazu Sambo as minister.

If confirmed by the senate, Sambo, who hails from Taraba state, will replace Sale Mamman, former minister of power, whom Buhari sacked in September. Mamman was sacked alongside Sabo Nanono, former agriculture minister.

The president’s request seeking the confirmation of Sambo was in a letter read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Tuesday.

Buhari asked the senate to confirm some nominees as resident electoral commissioners (REC) and national commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The nominees are; Mohammed Haruna (national commissioner), May Agbamuche Mbu (national commissioner), Okeagu Kenneth Nnamdi (national commissioner) A.B. Alkali (national commissioner) and Rada H. Gumus (national commissioner). Other nominees are; Sam Olumeko (national commissioner) and Olaniyi Olaleye Ijalaye (REC).

The president also asked the senate to confirm nominees to the National Population Commission (NPC) as commissioners. The nominees are; Benedict Opong, Gloria Izofor, Patricia O. Iyayan Kuchi, Bala Haliru (Kebbi) and Iyatayo Oyetunbi.
