Nine Kidnapped Victims in Kwara Remain Captive After Community Pays N40 Million Ransom
Nine individuals who were abducted by terrorists in Adanla community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, remain in captivity despite a N40 million ransom being paid by the community for their release. The ransom, which was gathered through contributions from community members and concerned citizens, was delivered to the terrorists, but the victims have yet to be freed.
A relative of some of the abducted victims, who requested to remain anonymous, confirmed the payment of the ransom, revealing that the community was now in a state of uncertainty as the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown. Despite the substantial ransom being paid, the fate of the hostages continues to hang in the balance.
The relative explained that the terrorists had contacted the community, stating that they were aware of news reports about the abductions. They further added that the victims’ release was contingent upon security agencies intervening and rescuing them. The relative expressed concern over the possibility of informants within the community aiding the terrorists by leaking sensitive information, which has likely prolonged the captives’ ordeal.
The relative made a heartfelt appeal to both the state government and security agencies, urging them to step in and ensure the victims’ safe release. “We have given the ransom, but our people are still in the hands of these criminals. We beg the government to do something quickly,” the relative said.
The victims were abducted on December 26, 2025, at the palace of the community’s monarch, Oba Olarinoye. On that day, the terrorists stormed the palace, apparently in search of the monarch and his queen. However, the royal couple was not present at the time, as the monarch had traveled to Igbaja town for an event. In their absence, the terrorists abducted nine other individuals from the palace and took them into the bush.
