Not Done Yet”: Postecoglou Eyes Epic Comeback

Ange Postecoglou has declared he is ready to return to football management, insisting his recent difficult experiences have only sharpened his hunger to succeed at the highest level.

The 60-year-old Australian, who has been without a club since October after a brief and troubled stint at Nottingham Forest, spoke candidly to Australian sports radio station SEN, outlining his readiness to take on a new challenge in European football.

“I want to win things still. I still have that drive and passion to achieve, that hasn’t changed,” Postecoglou said. “The fact now it’s the first time I’m coming off a bad experience — that’s just more fuel for me. Wherever I go there will be plenty of scepticism — that’s brilliant, that’s what I need. Get the gloves, put the helmet on again and go really hard.”

The former Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur manager, who guided Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years with a 2025 Europa League final victory over Manchester United, was nonetheless dismissed after two years in charge due to poor league form. His subsequent 40-day spell at Forest ended abruptly when he was sacked in October.

Despite those setbacks, Postecoglou remains bullish about what lies ahead. “I still feel like what I do still has an impact at this level. I’m not done yet, mate,” he said, adding that his next appointment would likely be “the best one I’ve done yet because of the recent experiences — maybe I needed them.”

While he stopped short of naming his next destination, he indicated a move was close and that cultural fit would be central to any decision. “I think part of it is going to be making sure that the people I work with are ready for what I’m going to deliver and that they understand me as a person and the kind of football I play, and I see the ambition in them,” he said.

Postecoglou acknowledged it had been painful watching both Tottenham and Forest struggle since his departure. The two clubs, each embroiled in a Premier League relegation battle, met on Sunday, with Spurs suffering a 3-0 home defeat. Tottenham currently sit just one point above the drop zone, while Forest are three points adrift.

“To watch them struggle has not been easy and it’s not the way I thought it would go,” he said. “They’re in a hell of a fight, relegation is massive for any club but for Tottenham, it’s a pretty big deal. They have some fighting to do and they have the quality to get out. They need a circuit-breaker for sure.”
