Gunmen Kill Four in Fresh Plateau Attack

Gunmen killed four residents during a late-night raid on Sabon Angwa village in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State on 29 October 2026. Armed gangs stormed the farming settlement near Bet and Zat around midnight, shooting indiscriminately at fleeing villagers. The violence erupted barely two days after suspected militia groups murdered seven people in neighbouring Jos South, exposing severe gaps in state defence networks.

Community leaders had dispatched clear warning alerts to security commanders twenty-four hours before the assault. Local military units failed to deploy preventive patrols to intercept the incoming attackers. The tardy security response allowed the assault team to retreat freely into nearby rocky hideouts.

Spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders Association, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killings as an unacceptable failure of local policing. He noted that armed gangs operate with total impunity despite official curfews across vulnerable rural districts. Local residents now face constant danger on their farms and inside their homes.

Rural insecurity has severely damaged agrarian output across the middle belt region over recent months. Farmers routinely abandon ripe crops to escape recurring midnight ambushes and coordinated land raids. Local markets suffer severe food shortages as transport routes grow increasingly hazardous for traders.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang faces rising public anger over the endless bloodshed inside native farming communities. State authorities continue to issue press statements while rural families bury their dead. Pumping more troops into static checkpoints fails to stop mobile militia groups from striking isolated hamlets.

Security agencies must adopt intelligence-led patrols to protect rural citizens from violent extermination. Ignoring early warning signals from local vigilantes directly invites civilian slaughter. Until state forces hunt down militia commanders inside their forest camps, peace will remain distant across the Plateau.
