ASSBIFI–NSITF Elects New Exco as Mijinyawa Emerges Secretary General

 

The Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) Unit, has elected a new executive council to steer the affairs of the union, with Dr. Umar Mohammed Mijinyawa emerging as Secretary General.

The election, held in a peaceful and transparent atmosphere, also produced Mr. Ibrahim Mukhtar Danmusa as President and Mr. Etalong Emmanuel Etalong as Vice President.

Others elected are Mr. Okobi Phillip as Assistant Secretary General and Mr. Solomon Bamidele Araeomi as Auditor II.

Members described the emergence of Dr. Mijinyawa, a PhD holder and fellow of several professional bodies, as a major boost to the union’s leadership, expressing confidence that his wealth of experience would strengthen the union’s administration, strategic direction and engagement with members.

They said the new Secretary General is expected to drive effective communication, deepen institutional development and enhance the union’s capacity to champion the welfare of workers within the NSITF.

Speaking after the exercise, members congratulated the newly elected officials and urged them to provide transparent, accountable and inclusive leadership in protecting the interests of ASSBIFI members.

They also charged the executives to strengthen collaboration with management, promote industrial harmony, defend workers’ rights and pursue policies that would improve staff welfare and professional development.

According to the members, the peaceful conduct of the election reaffirmed ASSBIFI’s commitment to internal democracy, unity and responsible unionism.

They expressed optimism that the new leadership would consolidate existing achievements, address emerging challenges and reposition the union for greater impact within the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund.

The election marks the beginning of a new leadership era for the ASSBIFI–NSITF Unit, with members expressing hope that the executives will uphold the values of integrity, service, innovation and unity while advancing the welfare of the workforce.
