Davido Reveals Upcoming Album With Chris Brown
Fresh details about cross-continental music collaborations have emerged as Davido disclosed plans for a joint album with Chris Brown, expected to be released next year.
The Nigerian Afrobeats star made the announcement during a recent appearance on the Swift Conversations podcast hosted by Adesope Olajide, where he outlined his current artistic direction and future projects. According to him, his evolving sound is now more deeply rooted in African influences, even as he maintains a global outlook shaped by his international exposure.
“The music I am making now is very African. In this next project, I am working with a lot of my original producers from back home,” Davido said. He added that his dual identity as a global act still creates room for international collaborations. “However, I am still an American, so definitely there’s going to be collaborations. Me and Chris Brown got an album coming next year.”
The announcement builds on a longstanding musical relationship between the two artistes, which has developed over several years through multiple joint records. Their first major collaboration, Blow My Mind released in 2019, marked a significant moment in the global spread of Afrobeats, blending Nigerian rhythms with mainstream American R&B.
Subsequent collaborations have reinforced that partnership, including tracks such as Lower Body, Shopping Spree, Nobody Needs To Know, Sensational, and Hmm. These releases have contributed to growing streaming numbers and increased crossover appeal for Afrobeats in international markets.
Industry data shows Afrobeats has experienced sustained global growth in recent years. According to reports from major streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music, African music streams have risen significantly since 2018, with Nigerian artistes leading the expansion. Davido remains one of the genre’s most commercially successful figures, consistently ranking among the most streamed African musicians globally.
While no official release date or tracklist has been announced, the proposed album is expected to draw attention from both African and international audiences, given the duo’s track record and established fan base. Analysts note that such collaborations often serve as strategic bridges between markets, although their long-term impact depends on reception and distribution reach.
For now, the project remains in development, with further details likely to emerge as production progresses.
