The singer addressed the issue in a post on X, reflecting on his previous approach to entertainment commentary and acknowledging that some of his remarks had hurt people.
Some of Mavo’s posts from 2023 contained derogatory comments about Davido, including an allegation concerning the singer and his newborn child. Mavo explained that he was heavily involved in entertainment criticism while he was a university student. He said he eventually stopped because he realised that celebrities paid little attention to criticism directed at them on social media.
According to the singer, he decided to focus on his music instead. Looking back on his previous comments, Mavo said his criticism had unintentionally hurt several people. He also said his perspective changed after he met some of the celebrities he had previously criticised, noting that his interactions with them showed him a different side of their personalities.
Mavo said some of the people he had judged online turned out to be “amazing people”, leading him to reconsider some of his earlier opinions. “My criticism sadly, unfortunately & unintentionally hurt quite a number of people & I’m honestly sorry,” he wrote.
The singer described his previous approach as a “misjudgment” and apologised to those affected by his comments.
He concluded his message with an appeal for people to “let love lead.” The apology has since generated reactions on social media, with some users questioning Mavo’s timing while others acknowledged his decision to publicly address his previous comments.
