Troops Neutralise 24 Insurgents in Yobe Attack

Soldiers of the Northeast Joint Task Force killed 24 Boko Haram fighters in Yobe State yesterday. The insurgents attempted to overrun the Kukareta community along the Damaturu–Maiduguri road during the early morning hours. Troops of Sector 2 responded with a swift offensive, forcing the attackers into a chaotic retreat. The military continues to scan the area for survivors and abandoned equipment.

The assault began shortly after midnight and lasted until 3:00 a.m. Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, confirmed the heavy toll on the militants. Soldiers recovered a significant cache of weaponry, including 18 AK-47 rifles, three general-purpose machine guns, and various anti-aircraft systems. This equipment suggests a high degree of preparation by the insurgents.

The military sustained minor losses during the exchange. Two soldiers suffered injuries and are currently in stable condition. An armoured tank in the reinforcement unit also sustained damage to its tyres during the firefight. These incidents underscore the persistent risks facing security forces in the border region.

Blood trails and discarded medical supplies indicate the insurgents suffered further losses during their withdrawal. The military is pursuing the remnants of the group to secure the surrounding terrain. Commanders cite the result as evidence of their fire superiority. This victory provides a temporary respite for the local community.

The Damaturu-Maiduguri axis remains a frequent flashpoint for insurgent activity. Constant vigilance by the troops prevents the total loss of freedom of movement on this strategic route. Residents now look toward the authorities to maintain this security posture. Sustained pressure remains the only way to contain such coordinated threats.
