Bournemouth Confirm Marco Rose As Iraola Successor
AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the appointment of Marco Rose as their new head coach on a three-year contract, with the German set to take over from Andoni Iraola at the end of the current season.
The decision, announced in a statement published on the club’s official website on Monday, concludes weeks of speculation surrounding the club’s managerial future after Iraola opted not to extend his contract beyond this campaign.
“Marco Rose is an experienced and highly respected head coach with a proven record at the highest level of European football. We are delighted to appoint him as our new manager and believe he is the right fit to continue our progress,” the club said.
Rose, 49, joins after leaving RB Leipzig in March 2025. His managerial career spans top European sides including Borussia Dortmund, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Red Bull Salzburg. Across these roles, he established a reputation for high-intensity pressing football and a strong focus on youth development.
His most notable stint came at Salzburg, where he guided the club to multiple domestic titles and reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League in the 2017–18 season. At Dortmund and Leipzig, he managed in the UEFA Champions League, further strengthening his profile as a coach capable of competing at elite level.
Reacting to his appointment, Rose described the move as a significant opportunity. “This is a fantastic club with a clear identity and ambition,” he said. “I’ve followed Bournemouth’s progress closely, and the energy around the team is very impressive. My goal is to build on what has already been achieved and help take the club to the next level.”
Iraola, who remains in charge until the end of the season, also reflected on his tenure. “It has been a privilege to work at Bournemouth,” he said. “We have built something special together, and I’m proud of the way the players and staff have developed. For now, the focus is on finishing the season strongly.”
The managerial transition comes at a crucial stage for AFC Bournemouth, who are pushing to consolidate their position in the Premier League. With the campaign entering its final phase, the club remains within reach of European qualification, a prospect that would mark a significant milestone in its recent development.
Reports widely indicate that Bournemouth evaluated multiple candidates, including Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town and Iñigo Pérez of Rayo Vallecano, before settling on Rose. His experience in European competitions and track record of improving teams competing beyond expectations are understood to have been key factors in the decision.
The appointment signals a strategic attempt by Bournemouth to sustain momentum and deepen its competitiveness within England’s top flight, as the club prepares for a new managerial era at the end of the season.
