Troops Dismantle Illegal Arms Factory in Plateau
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have raided a clandestine arms manufacturing site in Gwandanu Village, Plateau State. The tactical operation, executed on Wednesday evening, resulted in the arrest of two individuals engaged in the illegal fabrication of firearms. Military personnel seized a significant quantity of specialized tools and finished weapons from the location.
The recovery included two AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, and industrial equipment ranging from welding machines to precision drilling tools. Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the site served as a hub for local weapons production. This discovery marks a critical disruption to the supply chain of illicit arms fueling communal violence in the region.
In a separate engagement, troops in Kaduna State repelled an attack on Forest Guards and local vigilantes. Soldiers pursued the assailants toward the Jaginde Forest, leading to the arrest of one suspect near Ungwar Maruwa. A search of the area uncovered an AK-47 rifle, an AK-49 rifle, and logistical supplies used by the criminals.
The military has now expanded mop-up operations across the affected zones. These efforts seek to locate remaining fabricated weapons and identify links to wider criminal networks. Commanders emphasize that targeting the sources of production is essential to restoring stability. The Joint Task Force remains on high alert, requesting continued intelligence from residents.
The arrested suspects remain in military custody as investigations continue. Authorities indicate that mapping the distribution network remains a priority to prevent the resurgence of similar facilities. These operations signal a shift toward more aggressive proactive measures against internal security threats. Continued surveillance of suspected hideouts will define the coming weeks for troops in the area.
