ADC Shifts Primary Dates After Aspirants Requests
The African Democratic Congress has revised its primary elections timetable for the 2027 general elections, responding to what it described as requests from aspirants and logistical considerations. The party confirmed the adjustments in a notice issued Wednesday, jointly signed by National Organising Secretary Chinedu Idigo and National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi.
The statement said the changes were made “in response to aspirant requests and logistical considerations,” while other previously announced dates remain unaffected.
Under the new schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination forms, originally set for May 13, 2026, has been moved to May 14, 2026. Screening of aspirants, initially fixed for May 14 and 15, 2026, will now be conducted from May 16 to 17, 2026.
The notice further read, “Publication of screening results would take place on May 17, while appeals against screening decisions are scheduled for May 18 and 19.”
A final list of cleared candidates, the party said, will be published on May 20, 2026. The post primary election appeals timetable sets aside May 22 for legislative election appeals, May 23 for governorship election appeals, and May 26 for presidential election appeals.
The ADC also disclosed screening venues. Presidential and governorship aspirants will undergo screening in Abuja, while legislative aspirants will be screened in their respective state capitals.
On nomination fees, the party announced a concession for women and persons with disabilities. It stated, “Applicable concession: 25% of the standard nomination form cost.” The party advised aspirants who may have paid above the approved concessionary rate that refunds would be processed and communicated accordingly.
The revised timetable signals the party’s effort to accommodate aspirants while maintaining a clear roadmap toward candidate selection ahead of the general elections. No further adjustments to the schedule have been indicated for now.
