The Nigeria Premier Football League has signed a three-year title sponsorship with EuroMatch Group worth $7.5 million, ending almost ten years without a conventional title sponsor.
The agreement was unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. League chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye said the Warsaw-based company would pay $2.5 million each season. “Let me announce to you that the deal is about $2.5m every season from EUROMATCH for three seasons. That is $7.5m,” he said.
Sixty per cent of the annual sum, $1.5 million, is to go to the 20 participating clubs, according to officials. At current exchange rates the three-year package is worth more than N10 billion. EuroMatch becomes the official title sponsor and is expected to sit at the centre of the league’s commercial identity.
The last such deal belonged to Globacom. The telecommunications company signed a N1.89 billion three-year title sponsorship in 2013. The competition was branded the Glo Premier League. That relationship, which began in the 2012/13 season, ended after the 2016 Super Four. The League Management Company then adopted a multi-sponsor model rather than replacing the title partner. Brands including Eunisell, Bet9ja and Hero Lager later appeared as partners, but none took the title slot.
The drought mattered. Without a headline sponsor, clubs leaned more heavily on owners, state governments and matchday income. Broadcast arrangements were unstable. SuperSport pulled out of a partnership in 2017. A reported $34 million television rights package from the mid-2010s did not produce lasting visibility. The league was rebranded from the Nigeria Professional Football League to the Nigeria Premier Football League, yet commercial recovery lagged on-pitch ambition.
EuroMatch Group is a private investment firm focused on technology and gaming. Its portfolio includes Euromatch, a B2C sportsbook brand, and GB2B, which supplies platform technology to licensed operators. The company holds multiple gaming licences. The NPFL has not published a full breakdown of branding, advertising inventory or responsible-gambling conditions attached to the contract. Further implementation details are still expected.
The timing sits alongside a shift in how matches reach fans. Earlier in August the league ended its broadcasting and streaming partnership with Propel Sports Africa and signed Murphy Ben International to stream selected matches live, and delayed, in high definition on the official NPFL YouTube channel, free of charge. MBI is a multi-channel YouTube network with subsidiaries including Aforevo TV and Vybz 94.5 FM. Free digital access may widen the audience that a title sponsor can sell against, if production quality and fixture reliability hold.
For clubs, $1.5 million a season shared 20 ways is a modest but real injection if it actually reaches wage bills and welfare. It will not, on its own, match the commercial scale of leading African leagues. The test is whether the money is paid on time, split transparently and tied to standards on pitches, security and player welfare. Supporters will judge the deal by whether stadia, kick-off times and coverage improve, not by the dollar headline.
Nigerian football has seen sponsorships announced and then fade. Globacom’s exit left a vacuum that lasted a decade. EuroMatch’s arrival closes that gap on paper. Whether it becomes a durable commercial base, or another short chapter, will be measured across the three seasons now sold.
