Osimhen: “No Team Can Stop Me”
Victor Osimhen delivered a pointed message to the rest of the Turkish Süper Lig after scoring in Galatasaray’s derby victory over Fenerbahçe on Sunday, declaring that no opponent is capable of stopping him when the opportunity presents itself.
The Nigerian striker, currently on loan at the Istanbul club from Serie A side Napoli, has emerged as one of the most influential players in Turkey’s top flight this season, repeatedly delivering in matches that matter most to Galatasaray’s title ambitions.
Speaking after Sunday’s high-stakes Istanbul derby, Osimhen was direct about his confidence in his own ability. “If I get the chance, I can score against any team. That is my job, and I believe I do it well. We are getting closer to the championship,” he said.
The victory strengthened Galatasaray’s grip on top spot in the Süper Lig table, arriving at a critical stage of the season with only a handful of matches remaining. The two Istanbul clubs have been locked in a fierce title race, making Sunday’s result particularly consequential for both sides.
Osimhen also took aim at reported complaints from Fenerbahçe over issues surrounding the pre-match build-up, dismissing them with characteristic bluntness.
“I don’t follow social media, but someone at the training ground mentioned Fenerbahçe’s complaint. I don’t understand it. They are playing against one of the best teams in the league. Complaining about something like that doesn’t make much sense,” he stated.
The forward’s remarks captured the intensity of a rivalry that extends well beyond the football pitch. Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe represent the two most decorated clubs in Turkish football, and fixtures between them carry enormous weight — culturally, commercially, and competitively.
Osimhen joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan arrangement after a difficult period at Napoli, where a contract standoff and a turbulent summer transfer window had unsettled his position at the Italian club. His move to Turkey has since revived his form, with the 26-year-old rediscovering the sharpness that made him one of Europe’s most coveted strikers following Napoli’s 2022-23 Serie A title-winning campaign, in which he finished as the league’s top scorer.
His performances in Istanbul have reignited discussions about his long-term future, with Galatasaray reported to be exploring options to extend or formalise his stay beyond the current loan. Those decisions, however, remain ahead.
For now, Osimhen’s focus appears firmly fixed on domestic glory, and Galatasaray will be banking heavily on his goals as the title race enters its defining weeks.
