Juventus Eye €15m Move for Maduka Okoye

Juventus’ search for a new goalkeeper has pulled Maduka Okoye to the centre of the summer transfer market, with Serie A side Udinese placing a €15 million valuation on the Super Eagles shot-stopper as the Turin giants weigh a formal approach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Italian outlet Il Messaggero Veneto, through Tuttomercatoweb, reported that Udinese set the €15 million figure on the Nigerian, a sum comparable to what Juventus are prepared to negotiate for Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Juventus moved Okoye up their shortlist after talks for Martinez, a 2022 World Cup winner who has continued to enhance his reputation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, proved difficult.

The interest follows a campaign that reshaped how Okoye is viewed in Italy. His performances earned him Udinese’s Player of the Season award, a notable turnaround given how the season began. The 26-year-old missed the opening six matches following a suspension linked to a betting investigation, then returned to record 10 clean sheets in 30 appearances. That form helped Udinese to a 10th-place finish in the Italian top flight.

Okoye’s path to this point has been anything but smooth. After difficult spells at Watford and Fortuna Dusseldorf earlier in his career, the former Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper found stability in Italy after joining Udinese in 2023. His emergence as a dependable Serie A operator gives Juventus a measure of certainty. Unlike many foreign targets who would need time to adapt to Italian football, Okoye has already shown he can perform consistently at the highest level in the country.

The financial logic also favours a move. Reports indicate Udinese could negotiate around a package worth €12 million plus bonuses, a figure above Okoye’s estimated market value but well below the cost of signing a world-renowned goalkeeper such as Martinez. Transfermarkt currently places his value lower still, underlining the gap between his market price and his asking fee. His contract situation adds further appeal, with an extension keeping him at Udinese until June 2028, meaning Juventus would be investing in a goalkeeper entering his prime years.

Udinese, long known for their trading model, appear to be preparing for the possibility of a sale. The club have reportedly lined up Bologna goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia as a potential replacement, though any deal is expected to depend on their ability to secure a suitable replacement before allowing the Nigerian to depart.

This is not the first time Okoye’s name has surfaced at a major Italian club. He was tipped to replace Yann Sommer at Inter Milan last season, but the Nerazzurri opted against pursuing the interest. A switch to Juventus would carry greater weight. Regular Champions League football would lift him into territory few Nigerian goalkeepers have occupied since Vincent Enyeama’s prime years at Lille.

For now, the player has kept his focus close. Okoye, who has 21 caps for Nigeria, said his head remains with Udinese, leaving questions about his future to his advisers. His recent displays in friendlies against Poland and Portugal before the World Cup have only strengthened his standing as the Super Eagles’ first choice goalkeeper heading into the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

With two years left on his deal, Udinese hold the stronger hand. Discussions remain at an early stage, and the situation is expected to develop as Juventus continue to evaluate their options.
